Director’s Letter
April 7, 2010
Dear West Boca Parents:
The Board of Directors of West Boca Basketball thanks all of you for your continued support of our regular League programs. Our Spring 2010 enrollment is approximately 900 children ranging from age 5 to 18 participating in 14 separate divisions of our League. As always, we ask all participants, including players, family members, and other spectators at games to demonstrate maximum good sportsmanship and honor the policies of WBB and the public schools with whom we are partners. West Boca Basketball is about FUN, so let’s enjoy this season by setting good examples for each other!
Our Fall, 2010 Registration process is beginning as of Thursday, April 8 and will continue until August, when we will start the Fall activities with Player Evaluations on Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22. You can find the registration form for Fall 2010 on this website, but if you have played in a previous season, please use the form you receive via e-mail from the League. Please reserve the dates so you can bring your children for the Player Evaluations in August. Everyone who registers in a timely manner gets an opportunity to play in WBB, regardless of previous experience or skill level. But participants who do not tell us they will not be at the evaluations and who do not attend on August 21 or 22 risk losing their place on a team, so please be there or at minimum, indicate on your registration form that you cannot attend the evaluations.
Relating to this is our League position that yes, WBB is about FUN but we realize that everyone wants to compete in an environment where each team has a chance to win their game each weekend. Despite our best efforts at creating fair teams, WBB CANNOT GUARANTEE which teams will be stronger, nor do we have a crystal ball to predict that a team may not be strong enough to win ANY games. With that in mind, every parent should enroll their child(ren) after having a discussion about ATTITUDE, EFFORT and TEAMWORK. Teams can have a fantastic season and still have a record of 1-9 or even 0-10, if the coaches and players work together to do their best. We have seen many examples over the years where teams with losing records have shown tremendous improvement throughout their season, while an undefeated team in the same age group really didn’t have to work hard because by a stroke of good fortune, they had lots of good players. Parents, if you teach your children that WINNING is the only thing that matters, you are setting your children up for a miserable time if they happen to be on a team that isn’t strong enough to win many games. Let’s all work together to create a club-like environment for each team this Fall, 2010 season, so that our community’s children can experience the joy of basketball, WIN or LOSE!
Finally, we want to make you aware that our West Boca Basketball Summer Camp will be conducted in June at the FAU Basketball Arena under the leadership of Peter Kramer, FAU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Jarvis, and an experienced staff of current and former collegiate players. Please watch for further updates on the camp. If you have questions about the upcoming Camp, feel free to call our hotline at 482-1136 and leave your name and a return phone number.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, for those of you with children who are participating in the current season, good luck for the remainder of the season!
Best Regards,
Jeff Gordon
